Meet Gena Braman, PTA, CCM, new ALCA New England Chapter Member

March 20, 2023   |   New Member Spotlight

Where do you practice, Gena?

I practice in Essex Junction, Vermont in the Greater Burlington area.

What led you to the profession of Aging Life Care?

I have been involved in elder care for as long as I can remember!  When I was just a small child I would go to work at the area Skilled Nursing facility with my Grandmother who was a CNA. When I was 12 years old, I helped look after my aging grandfather as a safety presence and companion. After college, I worked as a Physical Therapist Assistant, Clinical Coordinator, Rehab Clinical Lead, and Director of Rehabilitation in Skilled Nursing facilities. When Covid hit, so did my desire to break out of the box that held me just to the physical well-being of my clients/patients. I always wondered what happened to my patients after they left rehab. I was always overly worried about who would help them, were they safe at home, did they have enough support from family and friends to make home a successful place to be? That is when I joined Home Care Assistance as a Client Care Manager. Caring for people, ensuring their safety, being there for them when others can not, supporting their right to age gracefully in a setting of their choice… It didn’t take long for me to realize that this is not just my work…It is my purpose!

Do you have an area of expertise or specialty?

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
