Meet Carolyn Brennan-Alley, LMSW, CMC and ALCA New England Chapter Co-President

June 13, 2023   |   Board/Committee Member Spotlight

Where do you practice, Carolyn?

I practice in the Downeast and Mid Coast regions of Maine. Hancock County, Penobscot County, Waldo, and Knox Counties.  There are very few Aging Life Care Professionals in Maine, so we travel and Zoom at some distance with clients.  I am a solo practitioner.

How long have you been an ALCA member?

I have been a member of ALCA since 2003 when I opened my practice.  As a sole practitioner, the professional connections, and relationships with colleagues both at the Chapter Level and Nationally have been invaluable.  Living in rural Maine, I have enjoyed and benefited from the expertise and strong relationships with members, peer support, and ongoing educational opportunities being involved with the Chapter and National.

Tell us about your experience as a Board/Committee member?

I have served on the New England Chapter Board since 2011.  I served on the Membership committee where we worked hard to reach out to members and add value to membership.  When Joan Garbow joined the Board, we Co-Chaired Membership from 2017 -2019 and continued to create positive and engaging opportunities for members.  From 2019-2021, I served as Co-Vice President with Joan Garbow.  This was the first time our New England Chapter had Co-Vice Presidents.  As sole practitioners, Joan and I felt we could serve the Chapter responsibly and supportively as a team.  In 2022, I had the honor of being selected as, “Outstanding Chapter Member”.  I have been privileged to serve as Co-President with Joan Garbow from 2021 through 2023.

What do you do in your free time?

I enjoy walking, hiking beautiful Maine trails and yoga.  I love to garden, travel, and spend time with my large extended family who keep me busy.  I like to cook and share meals with friends.
