Meet Kate Granigan, MSW, LICSW, C-ASWCM and ALCA National’s Board Member and President-Elect

June 20, 2023   |   Board/Committee Member Spotlight

Where do you practice, Kate?

Our office is in Newton, Massachusetts, and our coverage area is Massachusetts and Southern Coastal New Hampshire.

How long have you been an ALCA member?

I have been a member since 2005, a few years after I started my solo Care Management Practice.  I began committee work soon after joining, starting with the Programming committee; then assisting with several Conference committees and serving as co-chair for conference.  From there I moved to being a Board member for the NE chapter, and eventually President of the NE Chapter.   I am currently on the Aging Life Care Association Board of Directors, serving as 2023 President-Elect.

Tell us about your experience as a Board/Committee member?

Becoming involved in committee and Board work was one of the best decisions I made!  I was initially nervous because I was a solo practitioner at the time and a mom with small children, and worried about being over-committed.  I realized however, that participating in committee work and eventually Board work helped me be more efficient; as well as learn and grow in my experiences and expanded my resources of colleagues both across NE and nationally.  My business benefited from these experiences, as did my clients, and it made me a better Care Manager.

What do you do in your free time?

I continue to have a busy work life, which makes me appreciate my free time even more!  I love to be outside hiking, walking on a beach or just sitting in my yard or on my porch.  My family and I cherish time together in Puerto Rico and the slower pace. I now have two grown children and enjoy every moment I can spend with them as well. We have also welcomed Clyde, a French bulldog to our family, and he keeps us busy and laughing!
