Meet Wendy Adlerstein, LSW, CDP and ALCA New England Committee Member

Where do you practice, Wendy?
My FirstLight Home Care office primarily serves the western suburbs of Boston including towns like Needham, Newton, Wellesley, Weston, Wayland, Brookline and downtown Boston neighborhoods like the Back Bay, South End, Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury, etc. As Executive Director & Co-Owner, I oversee the non-medical assessments of clients, originating service plans, and supervise the office care team including the recruiting, training, scheduling and performance of caregivers.
How long have you been an ALCA member?
I have been an ALCA member for almost 8 years, as a Professional Member with my social work and elder services background, and now also as a Corporate Partner. Meeting and getting to know other ALCA members who share my commitment and interest in helping older adults age safely and with dignity in the community is what drew me to becoming more involved with an ALCA committee – and it’s been five years since I joined the Program Committee.
Tell us about your experience as a Board/Committee member?
It’s truly a pleasure being a part of the Program Committee. Getting to know and working with the other members of the committee is a lot of fun. Everyone is engaged and willing to share the work that’s involved around coordination and planning monthly programs. It’s nice to be a part the group and contribute to the ongoing education of other members, by helping to find and coordinate the speakers who present to our ALCA New England members on interesting topics each month, ranging from dementia, ethical issues, technology, legal matters, and more. The recent CE program which I helped organize on privacy and data security issues that are likely to arise in elder care contexts was an example of the value the Program Committee brings to the Chapter.
What do you do in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy walks with my dog, time with family and friends, volunteering with the Big Brother Big Sister program as a Big Sister, and being outside when the weather is nice!
