Meet Jenny Miller, MSW, CMC and ALCA New England Chapter Member Since 2006

October 24, 2023   |   Special Spotlight

Where do you practice, Jenny?

I practice in Rhode Island.

Tell us about your involvement and experience with ALCA.

I have been a member of ALCA for 17 years.  I have attended many of the New England Chapter conferences and CEU’s offerings.  I have found that it has been an excellent way to meet colleagues from other states to be able to have a professional connection and a resource for our clients and their families that live out of state.

What led you to the profession of Aging Life Care?

As a social worker I have always had a passion for working with the senior population. The story of how Senior Care Concepts started began with my grandmother, with whom I had the most wonderful and caring relationship. She once told me I could do anything I wanted to do as long as I put my mind to it, listened to the people around me and take the time to be kind and compassionate about others.

Prior to starting my company, I was working in Assisted Living Communities, and found that families needed more advice and direction than I could provide them.  As an Aging Life Care Professional, we can offer families catered plans to what each unique situation requires, all while offering compassion and understanding for what the individual and their family needs.

What resources or services do you frequently recommend to your clients to help them navigate the aging process more effectively?

We provide the local expertise and knowledge about the companies, services and programs offered in our client’s local community.  Our clients and their families are looking for education on starting the process of aging in place all the way through the death and dying process and everything in between, and we are the local experts for them.  When working with our families and clients, we bring a sense of calm to a very unsettled situation, and according to our clients, this is just what they need.

What is one piece of advice you can offer to those new to Aging Life Care?

Take the time and learn the resources in your area, be compassionate, listen to your clients and their needs, and don’t oversell yourself or your services.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I enjoy traveling to new places, especially places with warm sunshine!
